Storytelling is at the Heart of Every Compelling Application

My career has centered around translating ideas into compelling stories. Whether it’s helping non-profit organizations secure funding, building brands from the ground up, or guiding students toward their academic dreams, I specialize in crafting compelling narratives that help my clients win.

After graduating from Duke University and Brigham Young University Law School, I launched a career in nonprofit development. As a professional fundraiser, I leveraged persuasive storytelling, strategic thinking, and technical expertise to secure millions in investments, advancing critical human services for low-income children and families.

When my husband and I decided to pursue our dream of small business ownership in 2016, I applied my storytelling skills and strategic mindset to build a local bakery brand, a regional wholesale brand, and a national mail order cookie brand over seven years. As an entrepreneur, I used storytelling to shape value propositions and build strong, compelling brand identities.

Over the years, many friends turned to me for support with their students’ applications to college and professional schools. I supported students who applied to Duke, NYU, Johns Hopkins, BYU, Vanderbilt, University of Texas, and more. I found that strong applications rely on the same blend of authentic storytelling and meticulous attention to detail that had defined both my career in nonprofit development and my entrepreneurial ventures.

Ultimately, I merged my passion for storytelling with my expertise in consulting, and Purpose-Driven Writing was born. Here, I provide coaching, strategy, narrative development, and project management to empower students and nonprofits to tell engaging, authentic stories and to navigate applications with confidence.
